Taiga Clematis

Description
Introduced at the 2017 Chelsea Flower Show, Taiga shocked the plant world with blooms unlike any seen before on a clematis vine. These bicolor flowers have unique incurved sepals, for a spiky bloom that looks almost like a passion flower. It's a lively climber that covers up an old fence or dresses up a lamp post or mailbox, but we particularly like it climbing up a tuteur in a patio pot, every fascinating bloom on display. Unique from the moment it opens, the flower form continues to change and impress as it matures. Just opened blooms and fully matured blooms look almost like they belong to different plants. Extraordinary news from our trial gardens: As a southern vine, the general assumption was that Taiga is a bit more tender, performing best in Zone 7 and south. But this is the great thing about having a dedicated research team working at Spring Hill Nurseries. Our experts have been trialing Taiga for several years now in zone 6 with great success, and we are pleased to report that Taiga is reliably hardy to less than -10°F.

Taiga Clematis is in the GREEN pruning category. It blooms on old and new wood, so prune as often or as fully as you like to promote reblooming. See our Stoplight Pruning Guide for more information.
