A descendant of the ever popular Sweet Autumn Clematis, this exciting new variety stands head and shoulders over its white–flowering parent. It adds a sweet vanilla scent; larger and fuller 2" flowers that start out rich, raspberry red and mature to purple; and a longer bloom period to enjoy the show. Starting in midsummer and continuing into fall, you may enjoy up to 2,000 blooms on a mature plant. Plant in average, well–drained soil and keep the roots moist; mulch. Prune to 8–12" in early spring. Clematis terniflora 'Sweet Summer Love'
Sweet Summer Love Clematis is in the GREEN pruning category. It blooms on old and new wood, so prune as often or as fully as you like to promote reblooming. See our Stoplight Pruning Guide for more information.
