Running with Scissors Phlox

Description
This phlox, a cross between Phlox bifida and Phlox 'McDaniels Cushion', is cleverly named for its bifurcated petals that look like they were hand-cut with kindergarten scissors. But the real reason to plant Running with Scissors is its superior bloom power. Respected hybridizer from the Chicago Botanic Garden, Jim Ault developed this and other new varieties to exhibit improved color, vigor and durability—it knocks the socks off other moss phlox. In our trials, the flowers just kept on coming, performing head and shoulders above other cultivars, with sporadic repetition in the fall. The color caught our attention as well—a clear, violet-pink maturing to a whitish center that is set off splendidly by the dark green mat of foliage; brighter and bolder than most currently offered. A real problem solver, this new phlox should be planted where it can spill over walls, among rocks, or edging a walkway; it'll return the favor with masses of long-lasting color or solid green foliage nearly year round. Flowering lasts up to 6 weeks with a possible rebloom in fall. The dark green foliage is rosemary-like. Vigorous. A mounded grower that continues to spread over time. A light pruning is recommended immediately after flowering is complete. Developed by Jim Ault, Ph.D., at Chicago Botanic Garden from a cross made in 2008 between Phlox 'McDaniel's Cushion' and Phlox bifida.
