Origami Red and White Columbine

Very few flowering plants are as dramatic or vibrant as this heritage hybrid Columbine. Large, upward-facing flowers appear in abundance on a low-maintenance, 14-18" plant in the very first season. The red-and-white blooms are exotic in form with a bonnetlike appearancethey look amazing against the plant's light green foliage. Origami's unique flower shape and bold hue make them highly attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies—they and other pollinators will flock to any garden that includes lively Columbines. An easy-care perennial that looks great in woodland gardens and containers. Removing spent flowers will increase the blooming time. Columbines perform best when some of the plants go to seed and sow themselves. 3" pot. Aquilegia x Caerulea 'Origami Red & White'

Plants have a compact habit, the large, upfacing blooms usually bicolored in a variety of shades. This particular selection is red and white. Flowers are attractive to hummingbirds. Removing spent flowers will increase the blooming time. Great in containers. Since Columbines are relatively short lived, allow some of the plants to go to seed and self sow. Leaf miners or sawfly may disfigure the leaves around flowering time. Simply trim off the ugly foliage and the plants will grow fresh leaves.
