Josee Reblooming Lilac Pair

Description
Hundreds of lavender-pink florets appear on long, luxuriant panicles. After the first heavy bloom in late spring, given adequate moisture, Josee will continue to flower intermittently until frost. Josee is simply unbeatable when it come to fragrance. Just a single bouquet of the lush panicles will fill an entire room with perfume. Plus, Josee is great for attracting colorful, beneficial wildlife to your property. Beautiful butterflies and pollinating bees can't resist the fragrant flowers. Josee is tough, deer resistant and hardy in zones 5-8. Like trees, lilac bushes can live for a number of years, so you may look forward to years of colorful blooms.

I bought this several years ago. The blooms are beautiful yet sparse but I will add ashes this fall as suggested by a previous reviewer. I trim it after the spring bloom but it has never rebloomed in the fall. I recently bought the pink Josee. Any suggestions on reblooming?

I got two of these back in 2007 from Springhill but was disappointed. Not many blooms, and kind of sparse, year after year. Then someone told me to add ashes from the fireplace during the winter and presto! That, with Espoma lime in early March, did the trick. Mine look like the Springhill picture now.

I boughttwo of these pretty plants last spring (2011). They started to grow almost immediatey. Unfortunately, I lost one because the intense heat burned it and the roots just couldn't grow. The other one is still okay and hopefully will grow to see another season. Just too hot and dry this year for little ones. I'll be watching next spring!

3 Surprises

It arrived in September 2010. A great start, but our local deer eat absolutely everything, so they ate all the leaves very soon. I was not discouraged. I built a protective fence and I saw it coming to life in spring. Then I got my second surprise: the tiny plant not even 10 inches tall produced 3 beautiful flowers! Amazing. Then came the 3rd surprise: in the midst of rain and bloom, it died as if not watered at all. Why? But I will try again. From what I have seen it will be worth it.

I bought one of these 2 years ago, started it in a pot until my new bed was ready. It grew to 4 feet the first year-wow! You do need to water often and remove spent flowers to get it to rebloom, but mine now blooms until November. Buy this!!!

Last year I bought a Josee Reblooming Lilac from Springhill. It has now been in the ground for two years. The plant has grown to ten times its original size! Like my other lilac bushes it bloomed in the spring. Now, as our Mediterranean weather pattern heats up into the 90's it is still adding new growth at a prodigious rate. In addition to the foliar growth I am seeing many partially opened and un-opened flower panicles appearing. This lilac is amazing. It is hard to get lilacs to perform their best in our dry, hot California climate. If I were to recommend only one Lilac to a fellow Zone 9 Gardener, it would be this one. This little plant is out performing the Lilacs that were planted when the house was first built in 1930. A hardy, constant performer.
