Classic single-flowered hollyhocks love the sun and provide a backdrop for other perennials. This select strain, grown from seed, offers a striking mix of colors: mahogany, rose, pink, apricot, yellow, or ivory. They blend well with many plants but the colors yours will produce will be a surprise and impossible to predict. Because these are grown from a seed mix (often the best way to ensure the best stamina and variety of colors) the blooms will likely vary from each other, but what colors and how many of them are up to Mother Nature. If you see a particular shade that you love, propagation is easily done by saving the seed from pods produced in late summer and sowing your own the following spring. This way, you can design your own, one-of-a-kind hollyhock selection. They generously and reliably reseed themselves if left to their own devices, and Hollyhocks are often found by the foundations of long-gone pioneer dwellings. The 4-6' stems are covered with 3-5" blooms from midsummer to early fall. Space 2-3' apart. Alcea ficifolia 'Single Mix'
